The Tao of Avatar

To fully understand the Tao you shall learn the arts of control, knowing each element and its different effect. The secret to learn each art is to have an understanding of what you know. To control fire you must know yourself. To control earth you must be patient. To control wind you must find what you want. To control water you must want to help others.

All men need the elements to survive. The same way, the art of elements need men to be practiced. If there be no elements then there be no humans and also no art of the elements. The elements were not created to make war, they were created to make art. The Avatar is the total controller of the elements. He knows their secrets, and learns from them. The Avatar grows as all men do, and understands the importance of peace and brings it to men.

Fire complements earth, wind, and water. Wind complements earth, fire, and water. Earth complements fire, water, and wind. Water complements earth, fire, and wind. The real achievement that can be celebrated is peace. If there be peace, there be harmony between the elements. All men can control the elements, they create art with them, then calling it the art of the elements.

The four elements are used by their people to celebrate their existence. The earth masters use their art to create things. Water masters use their art to heal people. Fire masters use fire to destroy things. Fire is an aggressive element. The war was caused by their desire. Self control is the key to know the secrets of fire. Only two men have learned the secrets. The Avatar and his fire master.

Each element has its masters who do art with it. These masters live in places, there is a earth kingdom, wind kingdom, water kingdom, and fire kingdom. The biggest of all kingdoms is the Earth kingdom. It is solid as its element. The Avatar know the secrets of each kingdom, and has gone to all of them.

“Before you control fire you must be able to control yourself” said the fire master. “If you don’t you may hurt someone you love” he said then. The Avatar then learned that fire was meant to be danger. “Ambition has been brought by fire” said the Avatar. “The fire king is full with it.” The Avatar has a great self control over his feelings. Each fire lord lacks it. Fire brings desire, a feeling that has been erased by violence and ambition. The men who have desire for things have self control. To desire things is good, it leads you to have a good thought about them.

“Water, and all the elements are not to be controlled by women” said the fire master. The Avatar and Katara were there to listen. “I believe differently” said Katara who already knew how to control water. The Avatar knew her powers. How he had seen here used water to heal people. “Yes” he said “I have seen her work with it, she does know the art to control water.” Then the Avatar taught water masters that all people could control the elements.

To know the control of earth you must feel it under your feet, and learn what it tells you. The earth is moving, and to understand what it says you must feel it, then you can create art with the element. “When I am near earth, I feel comfortable, it is my partner” said the blind girl, master of the art to control earth. The Avatar knew her well, and learned how to control earth thanks to her teachings. All earth masters are harsh, their element is also harsh, masters are the same way as the element that they control and that they do art with.

Wind is an element hard to control. The Avatar was the last wind master in the world, and couldn’t teach it to anybody. Anyways this was his solid companion. All men rely on wind. We breath wind, with no wind there will be no life. But this element means more to the Avatar. He knows the wind, and has learned its secrets. The wind that is made to control is the wind that gives knowledge.

Peace is meant to be created by those who know the secrets of the elements. The Avatar knows the secrets of all elements meaning that he can bring peace and harmony to all men and elements. Only the one who knows the arts of control can teach them. Is The Avatar knows to control it all, he is the one who can teach that. All that was learned by him was taught by other people. If knowledge of the elements be given to you, you must understand the importance of it. These arts must be understood well so then they can be controlled.

The Game of GO

After playing for about 20 minutes I began to understand the way we need to play go. It is a game based on patience, you can’t precipitate and do moves that weren’t clearly thought. It’s a game were you don’t need your opponent to loose, but you are the one who doesn’t need to lose. You are not to attack the other player, but to defend yourself from him. To be and become victorious in this game you must understand the concept of you not depending on your opponent. I did understand very well this game, I had good strategies and made intelligent moves. I never looked at what the opponent could do but I looked at what I could do so he wouldn’t get me. This means that you should have a strategy based on your opponent and not based on how to get your opponent. I may conclude that this was a great game that was very entertaining.

What We Know

We as human beings believe to govern the world, and know everything needed to make this place better. But in chapter 17 there are some lines that show the levels of knowledge we have. “The highest is barely known” (Part 17) this means that the highest levels of knowledge is barely known, and we instead believe we know it all. This level is followed by three others, “Then comes what people know and love, then what is feared, and then which is despised” (Part 17) I repeat that these levels are referring to what we know, and as its said we know more of what we despise that what we love.

Another thing that is said in this part that I also agree with is a line that says, “Who does not trust enough will not be trusted.” (Part 17) I have an agreement with this because if you don’t trust people then you wont earn their trust back. It’s a normal conduct from the human beings, if you feel uncomfortable with something you will throw it away, the same with trust. So to be trusted you must trust.

Introducing Tao Te Ching

The first impression the Tao Te Ching is one that looks like Confucius, or like the bible. It teaches you some basic things to live and why things are how they are. At the beginning the book tells how things complement other things. “Difficult and easy complement each other.”(Part 2) Also the text tells us why humanity is how it is, giving reasons for the fights there are and all the miscues. “Not collecting treasures prevents stealing.” (Part 3) This is very true, because without any treasures we cannot have anything that can be stolen. But this is not the only thing that is said through this, another way to see this is as if everyone had the same amount of everything then no one would steel anything, because they wouldn’t have anything to steel. Very wise things are said by this book, teaching us, and educating us.

We Should Learn From Others

In these Books of Confucius you can see again how he teaches all his people and gives them good lessons. We, in our modern society should be able to learn and apply the lessons that he gave to his listeners and many more important people have given to their followers. He tells us, “Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire.”(Pg 45) This is something that Jesus also said to his disciples when he was alive. This is an example of two people who said common things. We should listen this and do it, if these two people said it and applied it we must think it is a wise thing to do.

Not only I learn things from others but we should all learn things from others to be better each day, improving things that you did before. But the problem with some people is that they think they don’t have mistakes and therefore not correct them. Confucius has an answer to that, “To make a mistake and yet not change your ways - this is what is called truly making a mistake.”(Pg 45) This tells me a lot, explaining not only why arrogant people are so stubborn but also why they never change. Because they don’t accept who they are and what they do wrong they never change, meaning they truly make a mistake. This is why some people do mistakes and accept them and then go on to become better people. In the other side we see people who don’t listen to others and accumulate many mistakes without correcting them, and when they try to become better they cant. We are better of if we don’t think only about ourselves but about others

Wealth

In Book seven of Confucius there is a phrase that really moved me which was, “If wealth were something worth pursuing, then I would pursue it,”(Pg 20) this master is really wise, because by saying “If wealth were something worth pursuing,” he is already saying it isn’t, it is an unnecessary thing to have. And right after saying that he then states, “then I would pursue it” which means that he will always go after things that are worth to go after. This Master is a person who knows what is essential for his development in life, and wont waste time pursuing unnecessary things such as wealth. Today all that people search for is money, which in reality is important but not what we should live for.

Being Good

As I began to read Confucius a lot of things were going through my mind. What was this book about? Will I learn anything that will inspire me to write a Blog entry? Well after only reading a couple of sentences I saw what all this was about. What I read was that we must follow Goodness, which is very important. The text shows us, “Only one who is Good is able to truly love others or despise others.” (Pg 10) This told me how the importance of just having goodness in me will let me truly love other people. Anyways, we shouldn't or just can’t judge if others or good or bad, “I don’t know about that-what makes you think he deserves to be called good?”(Pg 15) We can see how a person has said another is good, but what proof of that does he have? For me it all is depending in your individual point of view.

But how is this relevant, why will being good let me love others truly? I had my own answer, I believed that we should be good and accept all things when being like that, seeing how they truly are, and therefore loving truly. So when we are good with our parents, we will love them and that is so with all other people. The text tells us about love against parents, “you should be respectful and not oppose them, and follow their lead diligently”(Pg 12) This also tells me that we must respect our parents as giving them thanks for all that they did for us.

Faith Is Important

Why read Elie Wiesel’s Night and compare it with the book of Job? Well after reading them I discovered that there is similar character in both of them. This character in Job is Satan and in Night it is the Nazis. We learn that Satan is trying to defy Job to not believe in God,. The bible shows us, “And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”(Job 2, 4) Here Satan tells God that Job will not believe in him and so Satan begins to take away things from Job, but he doesn’t “sinned not, nor charged God foolishly”(Job 1, 22) In The other book, Night, the enemy are the Nazis, who try to take away the dignity to all the Jews, but they cant. “Blessed be the name of the eternal!”( Pg 64) Any ways, as this quote show us, the Jews were always havin faith on God and praing to him that they be protected. Both Books, Night and Job are examples of great faith.

Job In Doubt

In this part of the Bible I can see how the faith of Job onto god is being questioned. He tells us “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him :”(Job 23, 8) This shows how he is having a dispute within himself of the reality of God existing or not. He “cannot see him” and also “cannot perceive him” These two example Job gives us make us believe that he is actually questioning the existence of God. But his faith is so great that this fact is not possible. Its like if from one day to another Ricardo Kaka decided that he didn’t like soccer. Job can’t contradict the fact of Gods existence. It is very hard. Job understands why God acts how he acts, he shows us this, “Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.”(Job 23, 6) But, is Job saying this for his benefit, or for our benefit?

Faith, Trusting Your Life to God

After reading the last part of the bible I saw that Job was a very faithful person who always trusted god. Even though Satan challenged God saying Job would curse him, God knew Job wouldn’t. The Bible shows how Satan acted, “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? And still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”(Job 2, 3-4) Here we can see how God trusts on Job and admires him over most of the other men, “there is none like him in the earth” he says. This amount of faith given by a man to God is very big, it’s like trusting your life to a person or thing you are not even sure that it exists. I think not many, or not any, trust that much anyone or anything.

God Guides David

After reading Samuel 1,16-31 I analyze that David is a very important character in Jewish religion for his achievements, especially in the fight between him and Goliath. His achievements will come as they come to most of the others prophets in the Bible, they believe in “Lord God”. The Bible shows us David’s faith, “David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” (Samuel 17, 37) As any other person, David believes in his “winning streak” and also knowing the Lord will help him. I can compare him with athletes who have good times and also bad times, David seems to be in a good one.

David shows us how the Jews have a very deep faith on God and how they say he will always protect them. We can see that in the Bible when it says, “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”(Samuel 17, 45) Here Goliath has defied not only the Israelites but also their God, who will protect them. This “Lord God” who David talks a lot about is like the Hebrews father, he cares for them in every situation. As any good father, he will let his children grow and also help them in obstacles. We trust in our parents to a 100% level, having them around always and never letting us down. This is what God is.

Good News

In the Jewish society there was always a belief of a Messiah who will arrive and be the king of the Jews. This is said by God in this Book, “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom forever.” (Samuel 7, 12) Here there is proof that god will send a King to rule his people forever. This shows how some people, prophets, heard this from God and so told everyone about it. This is why the Hebrews waited for a Messiah. “I will be his father, and he shall be my son.” (Samuel 7,13) Here God confesses another great news, which means that this Messiah will be his son, a completely just and good person. This is how God gives his word.

Don’t Do To Others....

A phrase said commonly in today’s language is “Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you.” God tells this to his followers but in a different way, “Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.”(Exodus 22, 21) This shows how he tells them to respect strangers, because they didn’t like how Egyptians treated them when they were strangers there. God seems to want “his people” to treat all the worlds population well, because all of them are his creation. Also God tells his people that they must follow certain rules to punish people who do incorrect actions. An example from the text is, “If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.”(Exodus 22, 1) This shows how anything bad done bad by a person must be paid with a just penalty. If sheep are stolen the penalty for the thief is giving the owner more sheep. This enforces the phrase said at the beginning of my Blog, “Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you.”

God Helps The Hebrews

The Hebrews have a very Holy view of god. God always saved them in the most difficult situations, especially with Moses. He is, as they call “The Lord”, because he is always on the watch for them. Anyways there is a bit of separation between them and god. Sometimes they challenge him, the bible shows this “And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?” (Exodus 17, 3) Although Moses doesn’t have a direct answer to this, we find that as he asks “Lord God” there is an immediate response, in this case water sprouts out of a rock. It seems as though God is trying to prove himself, as Superman would try to prove he has powers, God does the same. He tells Moses to tell the Jews that he will give them bread, or water, or even appear onto them, and he does it.

After some time, the people begin to have faith and respect to God, but also fear sprouts in their minds. The Bible show us this, “And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” (Genesis 20, 19) This line shows us how people don’t want to get so close to god, in fear that they may die. We humans are afraid to the unknown, and God in this point is unknown for many of the Jews in this moment. This may be the reason for their fear, or is there another reason.

What Lord God Will Do

“Lord God” is one who will help his people in every circumstance until he finds what he was looking for. When the Hebrews were on domain of the Egyptians God sent many things to make the pharaoh let his people go. He tells Moses to tell the pharaoh what will happen if he doesn’t let the Jewish people go. After every obstacle left by “Lord God” the pharaoh seemed to let go but then he wouldn’t. The bible shows us, “Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and in treat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.”(Exodus 10, 16-17)Then he would regret his decision, “But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.”(Exodus 10,18) As any other father, as god is with his people, he goes to the extreme to let his people be free and happy. Any father will protect his son so he will be happy and be free. “And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.”(Exodus 11, 5) This shows that God will even kill to save the Hebrews. As a good father he is. Or is it that he is just looking to kill the Egyptians firstborn to punish them and for vengeance? Are “Lord Gods” intentions always for good?

Gods Plans

Important people have everything under control, at least that’s what we see of their actions. “Lord God” is one of those important people. He knows what Moses must do to let all the Jewish people be free. He tells Moses “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3, 10) His plans are like those that any Superhero has in any movie. Their plans don’t look like they will work but at the ends everything goes all right, sometimes there are some improvisations.

Most of all “Lord God” works in convincing Moses in doing what he tells him to do, talk to the pharaoh. Moses believes he wont be believed, the bible says, “And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.” (Exodus 4, 1) This shows how God also helped Moses, who in this case represents all men, confidence in himself to achieve goals. How our friends give us support to continue with our lives, God gives Moses support so he gets the courage to talk to the pharaoh.

Listen to Lord God

We can see how the “Lord God” tells Abraham what to do, giving him no option, this means that this “Lord God” is the commander and chief. The Bible says “And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.” (Genesis 16, 9)This shows how god somehow is the boss of a company. He gives orders to Abraham, Adam, Noah, and some others. He is trying to help them live correctly by giving them orders. He is always trying to help all men, or is that so? Well we cans say that yes, he warned Lot that his city would be destroyed, and that he should flee. The Bible says “And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.” (Genesis 19, 14) He is always right, and even though they didn’t believe Lot that the city would be destroyed, it happened. The “Lord God” will try to save his people, all humans, but only the ones who listen to him will be saved. We can also say that god will always do ahat he says, something that most of us, humans are bad at doing.

A Helper

Lord God is a very powerful and dominant living thing. He tells Abram what to do and also makes him do things for himself. “And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.” (Genesis 12, 7) This shows how Lord God makes Abram do something, but he returns a favor, in this case giving him land. This can demonstrate how sometime we tend to rely of having a reward to do something’s, I can even say we do that for everything. All the things we do are to give us an advantage.

I can also say that sometimes we rely in their things to do our job. Abram pleads for not a fight to begin between him and his brother, not thinking he can solve that problem by himself. “And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.” (Genesis 13, 8) This makes us think, should we learn to solve our own problems? Do we need outside help? Lord God gives these men a problem solver that is himself making them dependent in that Lord God.

Vocabulary ´s Importance

Sometimes word that is spoken in better terms or even in better tone is classified better than other writings. “The ear is the governing organ of this prose; if it sounds right it is right.” (pg 209) This statement made by the author makes us believe that really when words on sentences are well written they make that sentence better to understand and as said in the sentence before, they may be “accurate” statement. This is why the King James Bible is so well talked about around the world. It is written in the finest English, which for some people is the most important thing in written things. This means that thanks to vocabulary written things may become better. Of course that the message is the most important, but the way you express it is also important. The readers comprehention will also be affected by how the work is done.

A World For Progress and Change

All things grow through a progress of growth, this means change, which makes things better for some and worse for others. As said in the text “revolution” was going on in England, with the introduction of a sport from their northern Neighbor. This would be true, the people we know as pilgrims would decide to change their way living in England to then “struggle” to live in America. In that time people who wanted to make a change in their way of live by “separating” would be fined or locked up. But really what is change? It could be anything, from the ideas that want to go out of the ordinary, all the way to the people who want to change it all in their lives. The people who wanted the out of the ordinary movement would try once and fail, “This second attempt in the spring of 1608, leaving from the site of Immingham dock on Humber, also very nearly failed.”(Pg 178) This made me think of a lot of things. Why were these, as seen then, lawbreakers so interested in creating a different environment than the one they already had? Why were these people so in need of knew rights, knew things to do? I believe these “separatists” were against the bible and its ideas, they wanted to believe in something different than the bible. “In a sense that almost no one now understands, the words of the bible were the ultimate and encompassing truth itself.”(Pg 182) This was what they were after, they wanted to prove that the bible wasn’t the only thing 100% correct, they wanted to show other things were correct to. All they wanted was to make their society grow and make a “revolution” against normal day routine.

Is Perfect Possible?

Why do unfortunate events happen? Well, no body knows but it’s certain that they happen for a reason. They have an effect on the world, this effect changes the world forever, leaving a big opening in peoples harts. “The attempt by a group of desperate and marginalized Catholics renegades and romantics - terrorists is the word we would use – to blow up the king, queen, princes, peers, and other members of the parliament on its opening in November 5.”(pg 105) This line reflects how terrorists not only want to kill people but are also in the search of something else, they want change, which might be good or bad. They compare this actions with September 11, 2001 catastrophe made by the Muslims. This would continue a barrier that has been there for many years, the one between Islam and Catholicism.

These two different religions have had their misunderstandings and their wars to settle their problems, which are always, lead by their religions. Besides this separation of religion, there has always been a rivalry between European countries, especially between England, Spain, and France. Although all of them had their differences, they have now settled down. Anyways England was always superior to the other countries, or at least they believed that. “England was the white country, the king a magical miracle worker, a source of light himself who could turn black into white, who could bring happiness and the kind Protestant truth to the sad, blackened and benighted.”(pg 108) The white color here represents good, while black represents the opposite. This would then mean that England was the perfect, happy, and correct country. But still some unfortunate events happened. Why?

As One Dies, One Lives

The process in which you go through out life is pretty obvious, you are born, live, and then die. This is the process that every human being goes through, not only human being but also cities and cultures go through this process. Religions, even conflicts do the same thing that humans do which are live and die. “At last the old, hesitant, querulous and increasingly unapproachable Queen Elizabeth was dying.”(pg 1) This line shows us how a period of time in England’s history was about to end with the death of their present queen who was Queen Elizabeth.

The same happens to all of us, we die but we leave a legacy behind us, maybe not as big as the one Queen Elizabeth’s legacy but similar. We write, we make things, we help, we even create knew ideas. When we die we leave a mark, we leave a good mark. Wars mark is peace, and a Cities mark is nature. Things die and then create better things. “The country felt younger and more vital than its queen.”(pg. 2) As Queen Elizabeth died she left the throne of England to some one else, this person could generate a positive or a negative effect on England. Of course this person would be in the search for peace with Spain.
Finally I can say that as things die, they die to become better. As we die we make the world a better place for our loved ones, we generate the Best environment for them. No matter how bad life turns out to be, we will find a way for it to become better. Even if it means to die and leave a legacy behind you for your loved ones to see.

Anxiety, Wait for the Moment

You always want good things to happen, and you don’t want to wait for them. This is what impatience and anxiety are. They hurry you up wanting you to do things very fast so a good thing happens in little time. “Orpheus was permitted to take her away with him on one condition, that he should not turn around to look at her till they should have reached the upper air. Under this condition they proceeded on their way, he leading, she following, through passages dark and steep, in total silence, till they had nearly reached the outlet into the cheerful upper world, when Orpheus, in a moment of forgetfulness, to assure himself that she was still following, cast a glance behind him, when instantly she was borne away.” In this long quote we can see how Orpheus is beaten by anxiety and so he turns around, not following his orders and the good thing that was happening for him goes away. Sometime this happens for us. We wait for a good moment and when it comes time goes very fast and you don’t get to have fun in it. This is something similar to what happened to Orpheus, he was beaten by anxiety and his good moment was very short. You should wait for the good moment and when it comes have the best of it.

Cliche Titles

The Empire Strikes Back
The Perfect Storm
Boys Don’t Cry
Dude, Where’s My Car?
Scary Movie

Some cliché movie plots are:

His enemy kills the hero’s family. He then goes on a quest to find the villain and kill him for what he did.
Movies in which characters are killed one by one, slowly, creating terror. Finally one survives but is traumatized.
The villain fights the hero, finds his weak spot and almost kills him. The Hero then makes a last second comeback.
The main character looses his girl, and after a long time they come back together and live happily ever after.
In Sport movies the team is loosing, a player makes a inspiring speech and so they have a incredible come back.

Becoming Jealous

We find jealousy in almost every place in earth, every human being has this feeling, and it is one that is very bad. People who are jealous are ones that think that one person is taking the spotlight off of them. “That mortal was Arachne, a maiden who had attained such skill in the arts of weaving and embroidery that the nymphs themselves would leave their groves and fountains to come and gaze upon her work. It was not only beautiful when it was done, but beautiful also in the doing.” This shows how beautiful this person does and the perfectionism of her work. Any person who is also beautiful and perfect wouldn’t be jealous of her, but in this case Minerva is. “Let Minerva try her skill with mine,” said she; “if beaten I will pay the penalty.” Minerva heard this and was displeased.” This shows how any person can become jealous.

Jealousy can lead a person to do things they don’t want to, even do things that will hurt others. This happens because they want all the attention on them, all the glory for them. They are usually selfish people who have a very big ego. They don’t want competition so who ever challenge them must fall. “Minerva could not forbear to admire, yet felt indignant at the insult. She struck the web with her shuttle and rent it in pieces; she then touched the forehead of Arachne and made her feel her guilt and shame. She could not endure it and went and hanged herself.” This demonstrates how jealousy will turn us into people we don’t want to be. Or do you want to be like that.

Perfection

What would happen if the best offensive team in soccer played the best defensive team? I don’t know, probably it would be a great game in which the offensive team would do great goals. But if the defense is so good why would they make them goals? Its like if to perfect teams played each other. No one would win because every player was perfect but at the same tame the other teams perfection would make the players look imperfect. “The fox tried every art; he ran in a circle and turned on his track, the dog close upon him, with open jaws, snapping at his javelin, when suddenly he saw both dog and game stop instantly. The heavenly powers who had given both were not willing that either should conquer.” This shows how to perfect things are imperfect when they face each other. In this case it is the uncatchable fox and the dog that catches everything. The dog has to catch him but the fox can’t be caught. This means that they both become imperfect and have to stop. “In the very attitude of life and action they were turned into stone.” In this case they both were turned into stone. This can explain to us why nothing is perfect. In reality everything is perfect but because of that everything become imperfect, the perfections cancel each other out. Or are we not perfect and think we are?

Treason

Treason is a crime that today in some parts of the world is paid with death. Since ancient Greece treason has been seen bad. “Creon, the uncle of the fallen princes, now become king, caused Eteocles to be buried with distinguished honor, but suffered the body of Polynices to lie where it fell, forbidding every one on pain of death to give it burial.” In this sentence we can see how the treason that Polynicles gave to his home city was paid with death and even worse for Greeks, not being buried. I believe that the decisions that any person takes becomes their problem, no one should preoccupy about his problem unless the person ask them to. In other words I can say that one persons problem is none of your business. So if I decide to switch sides, as Polynicles did, no one should judge me as a traitor because its my problem, if I felt attacked in one side I have all the right to go to the other side.

Of course that there are some cases in which treason is a very bad action. This one is when you want to kill or damage someone after being his friend. “Polynices fled to Adrastus, king of Argos, who gave him his daughter in marriage, and aided him with an army to enforce his claim to the kingdom.” This shows how Polynicles decides to flee from his brother and plotted to take over his brother’s kingdom to make it his own. We can see that his treason is a really bad one, which at the end makes him pay as a bad person should pay.

Dishonesty and Disbelief

Today in the modern day we find liars very dishonored people who aren’t very intelligent and weren’t educated. I believe that in Ancient Greece they felt the same about people, thinking that they deserved to be killed. “Be gone! Or neither your false claims of glory nor parentage shall protect you.” This shows how some people react against dishonest people. These people loose the confidence of everybody having nobody to help them when they are in problems because of the fear of it all being a lie.

In the other hand we have those who judge liars to fast, this means they don’t give chances to the humble and honest people. “I come as a guest. If you honor illustrious descent, I claim Jupiter for my father; if mighty deeds, I plead the conquest of the Gorgon. I seek rest and food” We can see that the voice of this person seems true. Anyways the other person in this scene judges the person as a liar and makes him feel unwelcome. Usually for these people the honest person shows them their error in judging him so early. “Since you value my friendship so little, deign to accept a present;” and turning his face away, he held up the Gorgon’s head. Atlas, with all his bulk, was changed into stone.” This shows how the honest person makes the judging person pay.

Not Being Humble

The image that men have of their selves is one that depends on how they were thought and if they are good in the social aspect. There are some people who have a very big and especial view of them selves like Narcissus. “He fell in love with himself. He brought his lips near to take a kiss; he plunged his arms in to embrace the beloved object.” This shows how some people think very good about themselves. These people aren’t very humble. An example of a people who are like that are: David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and in this case Narcissus. These kinds of people usually end up bad, or at least that is what the Greeks tell us. “He pined away and died.” Anyways some people are impacted by those men and so mourn them. “The nymphs mourned for him, especially the water-nymphs.” If David Beckham died I imagine many people would cry for him not because of what he did for them but for what he did for himself. This shows that some people dont do much for others and are loved then. Instead some others are humble and are forgotten easily.

Scared of Monsters?

In ancient Greek mythology there were many monsters, which made great stories. I believe the people to scare others invented these monsters. This might have kept all the people scared at the time, making society act in a certain way. As we have seen in other works, people act in a way that has been thought since their parents, so if the men learned that monsters existed they would live scared of them in a unconsient way. “At one time they put the gods to such fear that they fled into Egypt and hid themselves under various forms.” This shows us how even gods were scared of them showing people how strong and bad the monsters were. Of course, there were some heroes who fought against the monsters; making themselves become knew stories for the Greeks. Among more Monsters or strange creatures were the Sphinx, Centaurs, and Griffins and much more, most of them were the combination of animals. “The body of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle, and back covered with feathers.” This describes how the Greeks made up the monsters so others could imagine them in a specific way. I can know say that men created these monsters to imagine powerful beings that were bad, not like gods.

Good vs. Bad

We are always making other people be mad at us by helping others. It is nonsense because when we help others we are trying to make them be better. When we do this people should respect us. Instead some persons see that you are helping people, maybe because of jealousy, they become to not like you. “The garment became warm on the body of Hercules the poison penetrated into all his limbs and caused him the most intense agony.” This shows how Hercules, a man who helped others was caught in a plot that centaur Nessus had planed. He was one of the people who hatred helpers.
Of course that there are not only people who don’t like helpers but people who help them. “Hercules descended into Hades, accompanied by Mercury and Minerva.” This show how Mercury and Minerva were two men that wanted to help Hercules do a good thing that would affect others. Obviously, we know that bad people hate good people and that good people help good people. This tells us a lot because we now know that the jealous people are bad and that supportive people are good. Why is this? I think because jealousy will make men do bad things wile supportiveness will give people positive ideas therefore they will help others.

How did we Get Here?

How did we get here? This is a question that most of the men have tried getting an answer to. I now know that there are many theories, one that has always attracted me is the one the Greeks propose. They say that it al lead to the creation of man. “But a nobler animal was wanted, and Man was made.”(Part 2, per 4) This shows how they believe that when man was created it was so noble that gods stopped creating more animals. Anyways there is an incomplete part that no one tells. Why is it than man became the “perfect” creation? I think that we say that because you always say you are the best and that’s what we have done. Of course we couldn’t have become this great without tools, also without fire as said in the Greek myths. Our civilization flourished thanks to the help of God, he might have wanted us to become great, or maybe it all was causality. With our life also came bad ideas. “War sprang up, using both as weapons; the guest was not safe in his friend’s house;”(Part 2, Per 10) One of the greatest enemies was war and hatred. Still life kept flourishing and even today it is a great gift. I believe that we must do all we can to have fun in our live, not knowing if we will have a second chance, maybe only one chance.

Finding Enkidu

The search of some one who you love is a search that most of all humans do. It is a very hard search and once done people don't want to separate from there loved ones. In the example of Gilgamesh and Enkidu they are very good friends and when one dies the other feels very bad. "Gilgamesh weeping mourned for Enkidu."(pg 44) The opposite is the feeling of a person who finds his loved one after many years of looking for him. This is how Gilgamesh feels after seeing Enkidu. "The spirit of Enkidu, a puff o breath, came forth from the nether world into the Upper. Then Gilgamesh and Enkidu, companions, tried to embrace and kiss one an other, companions."(pg 90) This is how some people salute the people they love.

Gilgamesh vs. nature

During the book we can see how Gilgamesh is constantly in a fight with nature. The want of people to conquer nature leads them to kill many parts of nature. In this story one enemy of Gilgamesh is the cedar forest and its guardian or demon which represent nature. "Then the two of them together seized the demon and by the tongue pulled all the insides out."(pg 28) We can also see that nature is used for the creations of humans and their buildings. "Then Gilgamesh built the gate made from the cedar taller than all the rest of the cedar trees that grew in the cedar forest. They built a raft and floated the gate to the city."(pg 28) At last we can see how the innocence of nature is seen wrongly by humans. They may be scared of it, and so feeling better than it. "Enkidu, now you are as beautiful as a god, why do you seek the company of beasts?"(pg 9) This is how in the story of Gilgamesh nature is used and conquered by men.

A Life saving Journey?

I believe that people always do what is convenient to them. That is how they act, they talk, and they think. Not many people sacrifice things for others, these people are a kind of heroes. They act thinking more on other people than on themselves. Corruption, in the other hand, is how other people think only about them. Gilgamesh is a hero. "Tell me the way to find the only of men by means of whom I might find out how death can be avoided."(pg 57) This is how good, caring people act and give an example normal people should follow. Friends care on their friends, and also family cares for family. So helping those people is what we do and if not we should do it. "Enkidu, the companion, whom I loved."(pg 59) This teaches me how love is a big motivator and makes some people do things they don't want to. Would Gilgamesh do the same if the dead on was a person he had met last night? I believe not, he is looking for someone he loves and is risking it all for him.

After thinking more I believe that more people each time think more on themselves. This make them evade problems but sometimes they are lead into problems. The same as for good, honest, and giving people. They always are the ones who loose it all and give it all. "for whom has my hearts blood been spent? For whom? For the serpent who has taken away the plant."(pg 80) This shows how some people try there hardest and get not a prise but a bad result. Anyways some way or an other Gilgamesh or good people will be recognized for their efforts and be given a prize. Still you cant always count on it.

The Start of a Quest

Death makes most of the people think about things they usually don't. Besides their sadness they begin to think of hoe they could have saved them and in the case of Gilgamesh, he thinks of saving him after death. Though the worse part of death is thinking about it, all people do is regret all they did, convincing themselves that they could have done it better. Also we only think of those dead who were influential to us, friends, family, and others. "Its Enkidu, the companion, whom I weep for."(pg 45) This sentence indicates us how sad Gilgamesh is for his friends death. He is, as all humans, recognizing the pain he feels for his death. Would people be happier if they never died? I believe so, death is a big problem but its part of life. Can Gilgamesh make Enkidu overcome that part of his life?

A journey to save Enkidu started as Gilgamesh thought of making him violate the law of death. We all want to do that but it is impossible. Only the gods can do that. of course that for all challenges there are warnings that tell you how hard they will be. "No mortal has ever journeyed through this mountains."(pg 50) This shows a warning they give to Gilgamesh. Saying indirectly that he will most probably die. Why is Gilgamesh risking his life for a friend who is already dead? I believe he wants to be with him, dead or alive.

Enkidu is Doomed

The love of the goddess Ishtar falls in love representing the perfection of Gilgamesh. Even Gods fall in love with him showing his part like god. As though then comes the wrath of Ishtar we can see how Gilgamesh is not afraid if the gods. Specially when Enkidu is at his side. "Two people, companions, they can prevail together."(pg 34) I can see how the two characters care a lot for each other, you can almost say they are dependent on on the other. When seeing this union I remind myself of all the Colombian families and how unified most of them are. The actions committed by both Gilgamesh and Enkidu are challenging towards the gods. Any ways Gilgamesh demonstrates a lot of self confidence. "I´m the strongest."(pg 36) I can see how he believes that nothing can hurt him, but is this self confidence going to protect him or make him more vulnerable?

I answered my question when Enkidu got sick. Gilgamesh then finds a weak spot inside himself which is his love towards him. "Why am I left to live wile my brother dies? Why should he die and I be spared to live?"(pg 38) I then saw how the disbelief of Gilgamesh was such that he even questioned the decision of the gods. I could also see that there was some repetition in the words. Sometimes the characters said two different worded sentences that actually meant the same. Enkidu begins to have many incredible thoughts and finally I could realise he was in love with life and was cursing the people that had caused hi death.l Anyways he was thank full for being with Gilgamesh. Or he wasn't? "Two people, companions, they can prevail together, Gilgamesh is afraid and doe not help me." (pg 43) This showed me that Enkidu wasn't completely thankful with Gilgamesh. Is my prediction true? Or is Enkidu saying something disguised in those words?

The Forests Conquest

Does the constant repetition in the Gilgamesh mean something more? I believe it does because I have seen many parts of the book have repeated sentences and thoughts. The dreams the Gilgamesh has in these tablets are very repetitive. Most of all the way they are told. "The two of them sheltered against the wind and a shower of rain that passed across the mountain. After a time the oblivion of sleep poured upon the king. He slept, but at midnight he awoke, and said to his companion:"(pg 24) This sentence compound was repeated very frequently during the beginning of these tablets. Why did the book repeat this so often? Maybe there is a message under those line which the author wanted us to see it but not make it very obvious.

There is also a lesson in this tablet which also is repeated several times. "Two people, companions, they can prevail together against terror."(pg 26) This lesson means that being with someone at you're side will bring you positive things to your outcome. This sentence gives us some indicators of being very old because it gives us ideas that these were lessons to promote teamwork. This meant that the book was directed to the people of that time giving them advices of how to live. I can also perceive that the two characters are becoming each time more confident on their partner, trusting each other.

Evolution and Death

"That night, before falling asleep in my motel bed, I finalized my plan. It was a bad plan, I knew it, but couldn´t come up with nothing better."(pg 257) Th pupil had finally concreted a plan to save human kind from a terrible ending. He was going to consult it with Ishmael but as he got to the carnival he saw it had moved; worst than that Ishmael had died. He couldn´t believe it. "Are you telling me he´s... dead?"(pg 261) I could see, even feel his disbelief. I was much like him because I thought he would organize a plan with his pupil. The narrator picked up all of Ishmael's materials, even the poster he had in his office. I could see that a part of Ishmael was there with his pupil, he was present in him. The narrator would then discover that the poster had two sides. "WITH MAN GONE, WILL THERE BE HOPE FOR GORILLA? The message on the other side reads: WITH GORILLA GONE, WILL THERE BE HOPE FOR MEN?"(pg 262-263)

Leavers Ideas Possible?

As the narrator try´s unsuccessfully to buy Ishmael, a very interesting chapter starts. Why? He begins to tell his pupil about the leavers story. His first lesson of the day begins by asking a previous question "How did man become man?"(pg 236) After some time of discussion, the pupil found an answer."Man became man by living in the hands of the gods."(pg 237) This reminded me of many things in that appeared before in the book, such as the discussion of why Adan took the fruit which belonged to the gods. This time the class would continue and came to a point which was very interesting, the premises for each culture. "The premise for the Takers is the world belongs to man. The premise for the Leavers is the man belongs to the world."(pg 239) These facts would make me think: If the man belongs to the world all his creations belong to the world as well. Also this made me think that the leavers story was that one, to live as though they belonged to the world. The pupil would the deduct that if we followed the leavers way of life we would continue evolving. As Ishmael continued they would come to more important information. "The world doesn´t need to belong to man, but it does need man to belong to it."(pg 243) This seemed to conclude the class, all Ishmael had taught his pupil was to come to this point of the learning.

After long hard work the narrator would be interested in saving the world, and asked Ishmael from were to start. He would answer in a predictable manner but then give him a clue. "You can´t change these things with laws. You must change peoples minds."(pg 249) This sentence would really impact me. I know understand why some people break laws. They break them because in their minds they believe differently as the laws tell them. Getting to the Takers minds will be better than giving them a law of what to do. Ultimately Ishmael told his pupil that the Leavers way of life would let them be free. "There is no significant difference between the inmates of your criminal prison and the inmates of your cultural prison."(pg 252) This shows me that Ishmael believes that we are being trapped in our own prison created by the Takers. After weeks of class, Ishmael would tell his pupil that his teachings were done. Th narrator in disbelief tells him he will be back tomorrow.

Michelle Obama´s speach

While we listen to Michelle Obama’s speech with a partner try to decide which punctuation mark should be used and where it should be putText of Michelle Obama's speech at the conventionBy The Associated Press – 1 day agoprepared remarks of Michelle Obama wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama for her address to the Democratic National Convention on Monday night in Denver as released by the Obama campaign:

OBAMA: As you might imagine, for Barack running for president is nothing compared to that first game of basketball with my brother Craig.I can't tell you how much it means to have Craig and my mom here tonight. Like Craig I can feel my dad looking down on us. Just as I've felt his presence in every grace-filled moment of my life.At six-foot-six, I've often felt like Craig was looking down on me too - literally. But the truth, is both when we were kids and today, he wasn't looking down on me — he was watching over me,and he's been there for me every step of the way since that clear February day 19 months ago, when — with little more than our faith in each other and a hunger for change — we joined my husband Barack Obama on the improbable journey that's brought us to this moment. But each of us also comes here tonight by way of our own improbable journey.I come here tonight as a sister, blessed with a brother who is my mentor, my protector and my lifelong friend.I come here as a wife, who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president.I come here as a Mom, whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world — they're the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning, and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night. Their future — and all our children's future — is my stake in this election. And I come here as a daughter — raised on the south side of Chicago, by a father who was a blue collar city worker, and a mother who stayed at home with my brother and me. My mother's love has always been a sustaining force for our family, and one of my greatest joys is seeing her integrity, her compassion, and her intelligence reflected in my own daughters. My dad was our rock, although he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in his early thirties he was our provider, our champion, our hero. As he got sicker it got harder for him to walk, it took him longer to get dressed in the morning. But if he was in pain, he never let on he never stopped smiling and laughing — even while struggling to button his shirt, even while using two canes to get himself across the room to give my mom a kiss, he just woke up a little earlier and worked a little harder. He and my mom poured everything they had into me and Craig. It was the greatest gift a child can receive, never doubting for a single minute that you're loved, and cherished, and have a place in this world. And thanks to their faith and hard work we both were able to go on to college. So I know firsthand from their lives — and mine — that the American dream endures. And you know what struck me when I first met Barack was that even though he had this funny name, even though he'd grown up all the way across the continent in Hawaii, his family was so much like mine, he was raised by grandparents who were working class folks just like my parents and by a single mother who struggled to pay the bills just like we did, like my family they scrimped and saved so that he could have opportunities they never had themselves. And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values, that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do. That you treat people with dignity and respect even if you don't know them and even if you don't agree with them. And Barack and I, set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements, is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them. And as our friendship grew and I learned more about Barack he introduced me to the work he'd done when he first moved to Chicago after college. Instead of heading to wall street ,Barack had gone to work in neighborhoods devastated when steel plants shut down ,and jobs dried up ,and he'd been invited back to speak to people from those neighborhoods about how to rebuild their community. The people gathered together that day were ordinary folks, doing the best they could to build a good life, they were parents living paycheck to paycheck, grandparents trying to get by on a fixed income men frustrated that they couldn't support their families after their jobs disappeared, those folks weren't asking for a handout or a shortcut. They were ready to work — they wanted to contribute they believed — like you and I believe — that America should be a place where you can make it if you try.Barack stood up that day and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since he talked about "The world as it is" and "The world as it should be." And he said that all too often we accept the distance between the two and settle for the world as it is — even when it doesn't reflect our values and aspirations. But he reminded us that we know what our world should look like we know what fairness and justice and opportunity look like, and he urged us to believe in ourselves — to find the strength within ourselves to strive for the world as it should be. And isn't that the great American story? It's the story of men and women gathered in churches and union halls, in town squares, and high school gyms — people who stood up and marched and risked everything they had — refusing to settle, determined to mold our future into the shape of our ideals. It is because of their will and determination that this week, we celebrate two anniversaries. The 88th anniversary of women winning the right to vote, and the 45th anniversary of that hot summer day when Dr. King lifted our sights and our hearts with his dream for our nation.

Leavers leave things to chance?

As every other day, Ishmael and his pupil begin his class as though it was any other day until the pupil asks about the leavers. this question astonished me because if he was so interested about the leavers wouldn´t he have already asked that question. Ishmael wasn´t as surprised as me. I think he thought the narrator would ask that question. "Why are you interested in knowing the story?". (pg 212) I believe the answer to this question was pretty easy to get. Still the narrator could only say that his reasons were almost unexplainable. "Again, why not learn it?" (pg 212) Ishmael got mad at his pupil, and so he was pushed to explain him why. First told him why the takers story was important to know. "So they can stop enacting it." (pg 213) Then Ishmael would go back to the point of why it was important to know the leavers story. The narrator told him that the story was necessary to know so that if they gave up the takers story, they´d have a story to switch to. This argument convinced Ishmael.

As the discussion of the story of the leavers started, an important question was formed. "How did man become man?".(pg 215) The question wasn´t answered but it was held to be answered later. the teacher continued with his class asking all kinds of questions. "According to Mother Culture, what kind of event was your agricultural revolution?"(pg 215) This began a discussion which would lead to the beginnings when Cain and Abel were alive. The pupil says that as Cain did, takers determine to kill leavers if needed to expand to territory covered by them. Then Ishmael as a good teacher gives a task to his pupil, he will act as a leaver and the narrator as a taker. The taker must convince the leaver that his life is better. " The man lives on the knife-edge of survival and has to struggle perpetually to keep from falling."(pg 220) The pupil says this trying to convince Ishmael that in the takers ways they control their lives, they play god. Their discussion circles around food supply, leavers pick it up and if ther´s no food they stay hungry, instead takers control their food supply. "What the gods provide is enough for your life as animals- I grant you that. But for your life as humans, you must provide that."(pg 226) This line expresses how takers play god, providing what they need for themselves to live. Not depending on the gods. Finally, after a long discussion they com to a conclusion. "The takers are the ones who know good and evil, and the leavers are...? The leavers are those who live in the hands of the gods."(pg 229)

Chapter Ten Ishmael.

The uncles arrival was the begining of an unfortunate series of events. When his uncle was supposed to be there for one day he stayed for two and a half. Then he begins to have a tooth ache which made him miss two other days of learning. The narrator begins to feel very nervous because he feels that not going to Ishmael for a long time will end up in a bad thing. The day he finally decided to go he wasn´t surprised to see that Ishmael was no longer there. "The gambler who puts his last hundred on odd and watches the ball hop decisively on 18 will tell you he knew it was a loosing bet the instant it left its hands. He knew, felt it."(pg 189) This reflects how certain the pupil was that Ishmael was no longer there. His search for him would then begin.
As intensely as he looked he seemed to find people he wasn´t looking for. His search seemed to be endless, he even put a newspaper ad giving a message to Ishmael's last pupils.Until he decided to search in a carnival, were he finally found Ishmael, better known there as Gargantua. As any other being he, Ishmael, began to feel that his pupil was no longer interested in learning so he began to act as if he was of no use anymore. "I didn´t invite you to make yourself my patron, so kindly refrain from patronizing me."(pg 195)Ishmael tells this to the narrator traing to make him come to sense, he is his pupil , not his patron as said over there. After some dialogue the narrator convinces Ishmael to continue his classes with a very impacting sentence. "So what are you going to do? Do I just become failure number five or what?"(pg 195) This makes Ishmael come into reason and continue the class. Though both of them are all mind into the teachings, a family starts to see the pupil talking to the gorilla. Ishmael tries to stop him from talking but he can´t. He then makes the pupil go.
The next day both of them kept going with their teachings. Culture was again brought into the discussion with Ishmael giving the narrator an other definition of it. "It´s the sum total of what has passed along, of course, not just information and techniques. It´s beliefs, assumptions, theories, customs, legends, songs, stories, dances, jokes, superstitions, prejudices, tastes, attitudes. Everything." (pg 199) The leavers seem to recognize their past and accept it letting it become part of their culture. Instead the takers mother culture say that everything of the past should be discarded. They believe this because mother culture convinces them from thinking that hunters lived in misery and that those past peoples are not worth. so takers believe that they need laws to live because they only want one right way to live and that's what laws give them. That's why the prophets are so important to them, because they give them laws to teach them the way to live. "The takers accumulate knowledge about what works well for things. The leavers accumulate knowledge of what works for people."(pg 206)That was concluded after a long discussion between Ishmael and his pupil.

Ishmael

The lessons that Ishmael gives to the narrator have moved me. They have made me think about the path our society has taken. Is it the good way or the preferd way? Douring my life I have had desitions to make although not very important ones. Some such as: Do I go to soccer practice or go to the movies with my friends? Do I read my book or stay plaing video games? Al these decitions have a good answer or a preferd answer. And as Ishmael tells his pupil, or even us, we as human beings have confused the good answer with the preferd answer.
