Don’t Do To Others....
A phrase said commonly in today’s language is “Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you.” God tells this to his followers but in a different way, “Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.”(Exodus 22, 21) This shows how he tells them to respect strangers, because they didn’t like how Egyptians treated them when they were strangers there. God seems to want “his people” to treat all the worlds population well, because all of them are his creation. Also God tells his people that they must follow certain rules to punish people who do incorrect actions. An example from the text is, “If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.”(Exodus 22, 1) This shows how anything bad done bad by a person must be paid with a just penalty. If sheep are stolen the penalty for the thief is giving the owner more sheep. This enforces the phrase said at the beginning of my Blog, “Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you.”
